Body of girl recovered from Chenab

DODA, Feb 15: A body of the girl, who jumped into river Chenab on January 2 this year, has been recovered near Assar area of the district.
A video purportedly showing this girl jumping into the ice-cold Chenab river from a bridge had also gone viral on social media.
As per police sources, a 20-year-old college student suddenly climbed the railing of the crowded bridge here on January 2 and jumped into the river Chenab.
The shocked onlookers immediately raised an alarm. Some of them clicked some pictures and shoot a video of the girl floating on the river for nearly three minutes and then disappearing in the water.
The girl had been identified Rakshu Devi, daughter of Koushal Kumar, a resident of Rokali, tehsil Thathri. She was the final year student of Government Degree College (GDC) Doda and was staying in a rented room in Doda town.
“After getting the information, a police party rushed to the spot and started searching for the girl with the help of rescuers and SDRF team”, SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir said, adding that the body of the girl has been recovered today near Assar.
The body of the girl has been shifted to District Hospital Doda for autopsy, which will be conducted tomorrow.
A case under relevant Sections stands registered at Doda Police Station and investigation of the case is going on to ascertain the reason behind such an extreme step.
The video of the incident, which went viral, had drawn criticism from several people on social sites including Facebook and Whatsapp.
