SAMBA, Oct 26: A meeting of industrial workers was held today at Bari Brahmana under the banner of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS).
Senior BMS leader, Harbans Choudhary chaired the meeting and discussed the problems of industrial workers.
The industrial workers in the meeting claimed that under Minimum Wages Act 1948 the minimum wages were last revised in the year 2022 and since then the minimum wages have not upgraded to compensate the cost escalation of essential commodities.
They said that in J&K, a committee was constituted in the year 2016 which was headed by Labour Commissioner and it recommended implementation of Variable Dearness allowance but nothing has been done in this regard so far.
“Other exploitations of private sector workers are also increasing and single overtime is being paid in violation of Factory Act,” the workers maintained adding: “There is even violation of EPF, ESIC and Contract Labour Act.”
A handout stated that BMS has decided to stage a protest demonstration in Jammu if minimum wages are not revised by November 2025.
Ashok Choudhary, organising secretary; Shamsher Chand, district president, Samba; Kuldeep Singh, president Contract Workers Union; Subash Chander, office secretary BMS; Yuv Raj Singh, president Distillery Workers Union and Mohan Lal were also present in the meeting.
