JAMMU, June 29: Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) today claimed that the path has been cleared for the implementation of Central Minimum Wages for employees working in hydro power projects in Kishtwar district.
Addressing a press conference, representatives of the Kissan Mazdoor Union (KMU) and BMS, including Ashok Choudhary and Harbans Choudhary, said that a deputation of the Kissan Mazdoor Union had recently met Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi to press for the demand.
“The delegation, led by Rakesh Thakur (president), along with Jainder Sharma, Naseeb Singh (general secretary), Girdhari Lal (working president), Daler Singh (additional general secretary) and Piyare Lal, highlighted the growing resentment among workers and frequent disruptions at key national hydro projects in the Kishtwar district,” they said.
The representatives added that after giving a patient hearing, the Union Minister held discussions with the CMDs of NHPC and CVPPPL, and directed them to implement Central minimum wages starting with the July 2025 salary.
They noted that the move is expected to benefit over 10,000 workers, each receiving an average monthly increase of over Rs 4,000. They credited this development to the sustained efforts of the Kissan Mazdoor Union under the leadership of Rakesh Thakur and Naseeb Singh, and the guidance of BMS state leadership. The Union has been pursuing this demand since 2022, they said.
