UDHAMPUR, Apr 14: To celebrate Baisakhi Mela, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS), Jammu organized a 3-day “Duggar Sanskriti Mahotsav” in close coordination with district administration, Udhampur, Union Ministry of Culture and Academy of Art Culture and Languages at the bank holy Devika River.
The chief guest, Romesh Singh, chairman, Baisakhi Mela Committee, Udhampur, inaugurated the festival by lighting the traditional lamp along with Puran Chand, Mela Magistrate and VK Magotra, MD, BLSKS, who was guest of honor.
The programme commenced with the Ved Mantras. The special attraction of the program was folk dances of J&K State where in over 50 renowned/reputed folk artists presented their colourful cultural programs, which were directed by ML Dogra, chairman, BLSKS. The programe was conducted by Yash Paul, a renowned writer and music director of the region.
The troupes which participated in the event include BLSKS, Hem Raj and party, Anjana Pudwal and party, Ali Mohd and party, Unison Culture Troupe as well as Suman Lata and party. On the occasion, the pledge was also administrated to the people for cleanliness of holy Devak River as being advocated by the Government.
Earlier, the mela was inaugurated by Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, DC, Udhampur by inspecting various Government stalls including cultural venue of 3-days festival being organized by BLSKS. The program culminated in the evening with the reciting of Devak Maiya Arti, composed and written by ML Dogra.
