JAMMU, May 14: A voluntary blood donation camp was organized at Headmasters Wellness Zone under the leadership of social activist Kumud Goel, drawing enthusiastic participation and strong community support.
Approximately 30 volunteers, with an equal representation of men and women, came forward to donate blood, reinforcing the spirit of compassion and collective responsibility.
The camp witnessed encouraging participation from prominent political and healthcare figures, further elevating the importance of voluntary blood donation in the region.
MLA Jammu East and senior BJP leader Yudhvir Sethi lauded the initiative, calling it a “timely and noble effort” that directly contributes to the region’s healthcare preparedness. “Blood donation camps like this should become a regular feature across Jammu and Kashmir,” Sethi emphasized. He appealed to youth and civil society members to take proactive steps in organizing and participating in such humanitarian drives.
BJP leader Rekha Mahajan also played a pivotal role in the success of the camp by actively mobilizing community support. Her presence and commitment added significant momentum to the event. “The idea of donating blood is still surrounded by many myths, especially among women,” she noted.
Kumud Goel emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation in her address. Highlighting the eligibility for blood donation, she added that individuals aged between 18 and 65 years can contribute to saving lives. She also urged more women to come forward and help debunk myths related to blood donation, thus creating a more inclusive donor community.
Rotarian Dr Navneet Kaur, a noted social reformer and secretary general of the Indian Society for Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology (J&K), underscored the cultural and humanitarian significance of donating blood.
Dr Neeti Dutt stressed the need to strengthen Jammu’s healthcare infrastructure. “Blood is a vital component and the first line of treatment for emergency patients, Thalassemia warriors, and cancer-stricken children,” she explained.
Ashu Goel, on behalf of the organizing committee, extended heartfelt gratitude to all voluntary donors and the dedicated staff of the Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology.
