UDHAMPUR, June 28: With the arrest of accused persons,  Udhampur Police today claimed to have solved  blind murder of father-son  duo at Sadota in Pancheri, last week and also mysterious death of  a young woman at Barmeen in Ramnagar, two months back.
“The Special Instigating Team of Udhampur Police has worked out the case of mysterious blind murder of  Saraj Din and his son Beniya, who were  brutally axed to death by some unknown criminals on the intervening night of  June 22-23,” SSP Udhampur Mohd Suleman Choudhary told media persons during a hurriedly called press conference, here today.
He said that following the double murder, a Special Investigating  Team was constituted with Additional SP Udhampur Mohan Lal Kaith as incharge to investigate the case. “The team immediately rushed to the spot along with FSL personnel and during the course of investigation, SIT interrogated a number  of suspects and finally zeroed on two suspects identified as Kaka  Ram and Khem Raj of Basnote, Tehsil Mongri.”
During sustained interrogation, he added, both suspects broke down and ultimately confessed to the crime, which was committed over a land dispute.
“Saraj Din had purchased a piece of land from Kaka Ram’s father, Nek Ram, about 30 years back without any legal agreement. Kaka was  not satisfied with the deal, due to which both parties used to quarrel  quite often on the issue,” the SSP said.
After a number of local Panchayat meetings, it was decided that  Saraj Din will pay Rs 70,000 to Kaka by June 20 which he failed to pay. Due to this, Kaka Ram in connivance with Khem Raj hatched  a conspiracy to kill Saraj Din and his son.
“Accordingly both the accused equipped with axes reached in the  house of Saraj Din, where both father and son were sleeping on the single bed. The accused killed them and  escaped from the spot,” the SSP said.
On the occasion, the SSP  informed that Udhampur Police has also solved the blind murder of a woman, whose body was found from a Nallah in  Barmeen area of  Ramnagar on April 7, this year. Estranged husband of the deceased has turned out to be the killer.
The deceased, Rajni Devi, wife of Ashok Kumar of  Upper Barmeen, had strained relations with her husband  due to which she was staying in her parents’ house at Lower Barmeen since August 2013.
On April 6, 2015, Ashok Kumar, in order to mislead every one, falsely informed his family members that he was going to Anantnag where he used to work in an Ice candy  factory. But instead, he reached Barmeen at 9 pm on the same day and  telephonically called his  wife to a nearby nallah in Barmeen. When the victim  came there, both of them had some heated exchange of words following which Ashok Kumar gave a fist blow to Rajni Devi, caught hold her neck and dipped her face in the water till she died on the spot. After committing the crime, the accused escaped from the spot.
During the course of investigation, police party picked up Ashok Kumar and subjected him to thorough interrogation. During the course of interrogation, the accused broke down and admitted commission of the crime. On this, the inquest proceeding was converted into Case FIR No. 60/2015 U/S 302 RPC at Police Station Ramnagar. Further investigation of the case is going on.
