REASI, May 19: Reasi Police claimed to have solved a blind murder case within 48 hours, transforming an inquest proceeding into a murder investigation and arresting the accused involved.
The case pertains to the tragic death of Subash Singh (35), son of Kirpa Ram, resident of Khada Butt Sangar, Tehsil Pouni, who was found to have suffered grievous head injuries on May 11, 2025. He was initially referred from District Hospital Reasi to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, where doctors declared him dead.
Following credible inputs, Police Station Ransoo initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). A thorough investigation was launched with the assistance of the District Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Reasi. During the enquiry, it became evident that the injuries sustained by the deceased were not accidental but the result of a deliberate assault.
Further investigation revealed that Jyotam Singh, son of Karnail Singh and a resident of the same village as of the deceased, had attacked Subash Singh with a baseball bat after a verbal dispute within the family escalated. The fatal blow to the head proved lethal despite medical efforts to save the victim.
Recognizing the premeditated nature of the act, a case FIR No. 15/2025 under section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Ransoo. The accused, Jyotam Singh, has since been apprehended and further legal proceedings are underway.
