UDHAMPUR, Feb 5: Chenani police solved a blind murder case by arresting the accused.
As per police sources, on January 3, 2016, a lady namely Nanti Devi lodged a complaint with police station Latti that her husband namely Hem Raj, son of Shiv Nath, a resident of Pundal Latti was missing since December 27, 2015.
On January 5, a male dead body was recovered from the Chillari jungles near village Koi Nallah under the jurisdiction of police post Sudh Mahadev. The deceased was later identified as Hem Raj.
On this inquest proceeding was initiated and during the course of enquiry it was found that the deceased died due to bullet injury.
As per statement of the prime witness namely Bago Devi, wife of Dev Raj of Pundal Latti (sister-in-law of the deceased) said that on December 27, 2015, she along with Hem Raj went to the jungles to collect firewood and after collecting firewood when she was sitting with the deceased in the jungles, she heard a fire-shot which resulted into the on the spot death of Hem Raj and she was also injured in the incident.
On raising hue and cry, a man aged between 50 to 55 years who was grazing his sheep in the jungles came on the spot with a gun and admitted that he had fired from his gun. He threatened the lady of dire consequence if she revealed the incident to anyone, the lady stated in her statement.
She further disclosed that she did not know the person but can identify him.
Acting over the statement of the lady, a case under FIR Number 6/16 under Section 304 RPC was registered at police station Chenani and investigation started.
During investigation, strenuous and hectic efforts were made by the police and arrested the accused, who has been identified by the lady in presence of Magistrate.
The accused has been identified as Santosh Kumar, son of Tarloku of Marothi. Weapon of offence has been recovered from the house of the accused on his disclosure.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
The arrest was made by SHO Chenani police station Inspector Mahesh Sharma and Incharge Sudh Mahadev police post SI SI Khyati Maan Khajuria under the supervision of SDPO Chenai Vinod Sharma, Additional SP Udhampur Mohan Lal Kaith and SSP Udhampur Suleman Choudhary.
