JAMMU, Aug 13: National president Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) K. Sai Reddy today said that his organization stands with the Government in its tariff dispute with the United States. This is because the Central Government, keeping in mind the interests of farmers, has refused to bow to the US pressure.
Reddy while talking to reporters here stated that BKS had already apprised the Central Government with the sentiments of Indian farmers in the context of the trade agreement being negotiated between the US and India. This included demands such as not permitting GM seeds and their products, and not allowing US companies into the dairy sector.
On this matter, during the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had informed about the courageous decision of the Government of India not to permit US entry into the agriculture, dairy, and fisheries sectors in the interest of farmers, he added.
He said the Kisan Sangh has welcomed this statement that promotes Indian traditional and organic farming.
Reddy further said that BKS is considering a plan to boycott products of all American companies engaged in the trade of fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides in India. Under this plan, an announcement may soon be made to farmers regarding the boycott of American agricultural products.
