Srinagar, July 15: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) today staged a celebration near Ghanta Ghar, hailing the Central Administrative Tribunal’s (CAT) decision to stay the rule that made Urdu mandatory for Naib Tehsildar posts in J&K.
BJYM leaders said the controversial rule was aimed at “strangulating” Kashmiri and Dogri, despite both being widely spoken and recognised under the J&K Official Languages Act, 2020.
“The Omar Government was aiming to strangulate Kashmiri and Dogri by making Urdu mandatory. Eighty six lakh people speak Kashmiri, followed by Dogri in Jammu,” BJYM J&K UT president Arun Prabhat told reporters here.
“We have been struggling for the last 36 days against it. We tried to reach the Government, but it acted as a mute spectator and did not bother about the youth,” he said.
Flanked by BJYM National Executive Member Bilal Parray, BJP Srinagar district president Advocate Sheikh Salman and other functionaries, Prabhat said that by ending the Urdu only barrier, “the Tribunal has opened doors for thousands of capable youth across the Union Territory.”
“The J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has now been directed to consider all five official languages of J&K-Hindi, Urdu, English, Kashmiri and Dogri-and we urge the Board to extend the form submission date so that youth who were earlier ineligible can now apply,” he added.
“The court understood the pain of youth and stood against the Government that favoured a selected few,” Prabhat said.
Bilal Parray praised the BJYM and BJP teams for “taking this matter to the appropriate legal forums and ensuring justice prevails,” calling the verdict “a collective victory for all those who believe in fairness, merit and transparency.”
BJP leaders reiterated that the previous rule was inconsistent with the J&K Official Languages Act, 2020, and vowed to safeguard youth interests and ensure unbiased recruitment in the Union Territory.
