JAMMU, Nov 3: BJP’s Sonam Dawa today took over as the Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), days after the party swept the elections for the 26-member body.
In a major boost to party in the State after 2014 assembly polls, the BJP on October 23 had swept the LAHDC polls by winning 18 of the 26 seats and wrested control of the council from its arch rival Congress.
The BJP had contested 24 of the 26 LAHDC Leh seats for which elections were held on October 19.
In a swearing in function held at Leh’s Polo Ground, Dawa took over as Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC in presence of BJP national vice-president and MP Avinash Rai Khanna, party national general secretary Ram Madhav and PDP president and MP Mehbooba Mufti.
Others who took part in the function included BJP state president Jugal Kishore Sharma, Deputy CM Nirmal Singh and state education minister Nayeem Akhtar, state co-operatives minister Tsering Dorjey, party general secretary (organisation) Ashok Koul and Ladakh MP Thumpstan Chhewang. (AGENCIES)
