UDHAMPUR, Apr 6: Terming that prophecy of former Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee made during party convention in Mumbai after formation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1980 proved prophetic and party became world’s largest political organisation under the stewardship of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Union Minister in PMO with independent charge of Ministry of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr Jitendra Singh today said BJP’s core strength is ideological commitment , devoid of opportunism.

Talking to reporters here today on the sidelines of BJP’s 47th Foundation Day celebrations, Dr Jitendra Singh said unlike other political parties BJP is an ideological party which always stood for nation first whether in power or opposition. In opposition, it stood for national cause and supported every Government whenever nation faced crisis whether it was Bangladesh war or terrorism in different parts of country. This was the main cause of BJP’s growing popularity among masses.
Dr Jitendra Singh said when Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) merged with Janata Party under the leadership of Lok Nayak, Jai Prakash Narayan who revolted against then Congress Government led by Indira Gandhi for imposing black law of emergency in the country in 1975, party’s two ministers, Atal Behari Vajpayee and L K Advani did not spare even a second in quitting their ministerial berths in Janata Party Government when the dual membership issue was raised by some constituents in the Party. They resigned from their ministries to uphold the principal the party cherished for decades, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said after the very first Mumbai convention to re-establish BJP in new format, Atal Behari Vajpayee, in his address, said that one day there will be a new sunrise and the clouds in sky will disappear. This proved prophetic when Vajpayee became Prime Minister of the country in late nineties, he added.
The Union Minister said dream of Vajpayee got fulfilled in 2014 after Narendra Modi took over Prime Minister and he launched a movement of development carrying India to high pedestals among world’s front line nations. “Today the voice of India is heard universally and it is being also acknowledged,” he added.
He said BJP under the leadership of Narendra Modi who is the longest serving politician is pledged to achieve the ambitious goal for India to become a developed nation (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.
Dr Jitendra Singh said BJP is at present world’s largest political party and it sustained this because of being an ideological based party. “BJP sustained for last 47 years since its formation and gained popularity day by day because of its ideology,” he added.
The Union Minister said that in comparison to other political parties whose leaders when out of power switch loyalty and join other parties, for BJP leaders there is no difference whether they are in power or in opposition as they are always wedded to national cause and its service.
Dr Jitendra Singh said for decades BJP was not in power but it remained united while leaders of Congress and other opposition parties switched loyalties when losing power. This is the main difference between BJP and other parities, he added.
He said whenever nation faced any challenge or external aggression the BJP in oppositions stood with the Governments of the time but Congress and other opposition parties tried to find fault in every good work of BJP. They opposed surgical strikes, Operation Sindoor and even launched false propaganda against the then BJP Government during Kargil war.
The Union Minister said “BJP and the then Jana Sangh stood with Government in 1962 China war, 1965 war with Pakistan and also in 1971 Bangladesh war because for us nation is first and party second”.
He said it was due to this broad vision of BJP and its principled stand on the national and international issues that the then Prime Minister, Narsimha Rao deputed Vajpayee to Genewa to lead the Indian delegation in UN and what Congress is doing is not hidden from any one.
Dr Jitendra Singh said the cause of growing popularity of BJP is its sustained ideological commitment without opportunism on the part of its Karikartas (activists).
