JAMMU, Apr 16: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today came down heavily on the BJP-led Central Government, accusing it of misusing investigative agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to harass opposition leaders and divert attention from the pressing issues facing the common man.
The senior Congress leader was speaking to media persons after inaugurating a restaurant, here today. Referring to the ED chargesheet filed against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others in the National Herald case, Tony slammed the BJP for indulging in what he termed as “brazen political vendetta”. He stated that the case has no merit and is being resurrected only to stifle dissent and cripple the principal opposition party ahead of crucial elections.
“This is nothing but a deliberate attempt to malign the image of our top leadership and suppress the voice of democracy,” Tony said, adding that the BJP is working against the very spirit of law and justice. “Instead of addressing the rising inflation, unemployment, and the deteriorating condition of farmers and labourers, the BJP is busy orchestrating distractions through ED and CBI,” he said.
Tony questioned the BJP’s silence on serious corruption charges against its own leaders and asked why similar enthusiasm is not seen when it comes to investigating those in power. “The people of India are watching. They can clearly see the double standards and the misuse of constitutional institutions for political gains,” he said.
Calling upon the people, especially the youth, to rise in defense of democracy and constitutional values, Tony said, “This is not just about the Congress. This is about saving India’s soul, its democracy, and its future.”
He reiterated that Congress will not be cowed down by such tactics and will continue to raise the voice of the people, no matter how many agencies are unleashed to suppress it.
