BJP to strongly demand separate NLU, Veterinary Sciences varsity for Jammu

Party to expose NC for negating poll promises

JAMMU, Mar 22: BJP is all set to expose what it called the “anti people stance” of the National Conference (NC) Government. The party which held a meeting of MLAs here today under the chairmanship of BJP UT president and MP Rajya Sabha, Sat Sharma (CA) decided to corner the Government during the budget session resuming after the Ramzan and Navratra break on March 27.

According to party sources, BJP will take head on with the NC Government over its failure in fulfilling the poll promises which included providing of jobs to unemployed educated youth of the J&K. Sources said no headway has been made in this direction by the NC Government led by Omar Abdullah which is in office for over last one and half years now.
BJP as a responsible opposition party will raise these issues forcefully in the House and party has decided to put the Government on mat for its failure in fulfilling the poll promises, they added.
Sources said the BJP will also take a united stand on private members’ resolutions and bills to be tabled in the House. While it will support those resolutions and bills which are in the overall interests of the people of the UT, it will not support any private member’s Bill or resolution that will be inimical to interests of people and country.
Sources said the party will strongly demand a separate National Lal University (NLU) for Jammu as the Jammu too needs a separate law university while it is not opposed to opening one in Kashmir.
Sources said moreover party will also strongly support the resolution of its MLA from Jammu South, R S Pura, Dr Narinder Singh stressing opening of Veterinary Sciences University in Jammu to boost the economy of the UT.
Sources said on the Private member’s Bill regarding the rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants, by Aga Syed Muntzir, the party is of the opinion that in this regard the aspirations of displaced Kashmiri Pandits are to be taken into account and BJP favours that no decision in this regard should be taken without consulting the community.
Sources said that during the meeting, the party MLAs were given directives to toe the party line during the debate on all the issues and also highlight the pressing issues of the people of the UT forcefully in the House.
To seek the legal opinion on the bills and resolutions brought by NC and PDP MLAs, the three legal luminaries of the party including its chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi, spokespersons, Abhinav Sharma and Ankur Sharma also attended the meeting.
BJP president Sat Sharma told Excelsior that his party will not spare the Government for its failure in fulfilling the poll promises and the problems being faced by the people of the UT. The issues of power outages, regularisation of daily wagers and other issues concerning the common man will be vociferously raised in the House.
BJP MLA from Jammu South, Dr Narinder Singh, who is bringing a resolution on establishment of Veterinary Sciences University in Jammu, said that it is a long pending demand of the people of the region. He said in 2014 and 2019, Committees were constituted which recommended the establishment of the University in Jammu to increase the per capita income of farmers.
He said neighbouring states like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana have established such universities and in Punjab the farmers’ income has been considerably boosted after establishment of University.
Sat Sharma CA, along with general secretary (Org) Ashok Koul, deputy leaders of Opposition in Assembly, Surjit Singh Salathia, and Pawan Gupta, held the crucial meeting of party MLAs at its Headquarters here.
The meeting was attended by party MLAs, general secretaries, and other senior leaders, who deliberated extensively on the prevailing socio-political situation in Jammu & Kashmir, as well as key public issues that need to be effectively raised in the Assembly.
Addressing the meeting, Sat Sharma emphasized the responsibility of BJP legislators to act as strong representatives of public aspirations. He said that the BJP MLAs must remain proactive in highlighting the genuine concerns of the people in Assembly. He stressed that the current socio-political situation in Jammu & Kashmir demands a vigilant and committed approach from our representatives. He asked the MLAs to forcefully expose any “anti-people stance” of the government and ensure accountability at every level. He added that at the same time, MLAs should ask the NC-led Government to commit itself fully to public welfare policies without any regional bias, ensuring equal development and justice for both regions and all sections of society. He added that the BJP will continue to play the role of a constructive yet firm opposition, ensuring that the Government does not deviate from pro-people policies and remains sensitive to the needs of every region of Jammu & Kashmir.
Ashok Koul, in his address, stressed the importance of coordinated efforts and organizational discipline among party legislators. He said that the party MLAs must work in close coordination with the organization to effectively raise public issues. He said that the concerns of common people, especially related to development, governance, and basic amenities, should be strongly highlighted in the Assembly. He also prompted the MLAs to organise party’s Prashikshan camps in their respective constituencies.
SS Salathia, and Pawan Gupta led the party MLAs to share their viewpoints, feedback, and concerns regarding issues faced by the people across different regions. They also discussed strategies to ensure that the voice of the public is strongly represented on the floor of the Assembly.
