JAMMU, Apr 11: Claiming that wave on the ground was in favour of Congress and not Modi, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that BJP is going to meet the same fate as it tasted in 2004 and 2009 elections.
Addressing election rallies at Lati, Basantgarh, Chowki and other higher reaches of Chenani and Ramnagar in Udhampur district and Bhamag belt in Reasi today, Mr Azad said BJP has started misleading campaign in the country on the name of Modi wave. He said the so called Modi wave is just hype created by media in some urban areas. India lives in the villages and there is no such wave at all.
“In fact if you see at ground level, there is strong wave in favour of Congress Party. Like in the past, the NDA is playing colourful music and distributing sweets in anticipation of winning elections, but it will meet the same fate as in 2004 and 2009 elections,” Mr Azad maintained.
Referring to the contribution of UPA, Azad said in last 10 years the UPA-I and II performed remarkably well. The people should not get misguided by tall and hollow promises of the opponents. Congress always spoke about the poor and common people and formulated good policies and schemes for them. Congress never carried castle in the air like others. He asked people to remain vigilant from such parties which exploit people just to grab power. The Congress has always worked for unity and development of the country, he added.
Mr Azad said, “creation of eight new districts during my tenure as Chief Minister followed by setting up of hundreds of new administrative units by ruling NC-Congress coalition Government headed by Omar Abdullah, will definitely bring revolutionary changes in rural, remote and hilly belts of Jammu and Kashmir”.
“Following long pending demand of new districts, my cabinet created eight districts. I constituted Baloeria Commission to make a comprehensive report for further setting up of administrative units. Finally, during NC-Congress coalition, a Cabinet Sub-committee under DyCM was constituted, which held extensive tours of each and every part of the State and made a detailed report thereby creating hundreds of new administrative units including Sub Divisions, Tehsils, Blocks and Niabats,” Azad said, adding that these new administrative units would definitely bring a revolutionary changes in rural and hilly belts of the State.
“Now, you will not have to go far off to get your work done. Congress and NC had tried to end up your problems to a great extent. Now, several Government offices will be set up near your locations. And it would be very easy to get the work done. It is positive and constructive approach of Congress and NC, which always work for the betterment of the people irrespective of any caste, colour or religion,” Azad said.
Highlighting the achievements of UPA Government in past 10 years, Azad said, “Congress has always made special projects for the upliftment of poor and rural population. At least one ASHA worker in each village has been provided. 13 crore rural people have been provided employment under MNREGA, Hospitals and Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres in almost every village of the country have been opened. Free Medical treatment for pregnant women and newly born babies are the examples which clearly show how much work Congress Party has done for the welfare of the people especially for the people living in rural and far flung areas of the country”.
Azad further reminded the people that it was during his tenure as Chief Minister that the long pending demand of granting district status to Reasi was fulfilled. “For decades together people of Reasi were agitating for district, we fulfilled that demand”, he said and mentioned that it was all due to the efforts of National Conference-Congress regime.
Among others who addressed the gathering including former Minister and sitting Congress MLC, Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLA Krishan Chand Bhagat, senior Congress leader from Ramnagar Assembly segment R S Pathania and former Minister senior NC leader, Jagjivan Lal.
