SRINAGAR, Dec 12: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Tariq Hameed Karra today accused the BJP of delaying the framing of business rules and defining the division of powers between the Lieutenant Governor and the elected Government in J&K, questioning the party’s intentions for the region.

Speaking at a function at the party headquarters in Srinagar, Karra alleged that the BJP is directly involved in undermining the rights of the people of J&K. “Otherwise, how do you explain not forming business rules till now? What justification is there for not clarifying the division of powers between the LG and the elected Government? This reflects their ill intentions toward J&K,” he said.
Regarding the upcoming pre-budget session, JKPCC Chief said his party has no expectations from the national budget. He criticized previous budgets for neglecting key sectors like health and education. “The allocations for these sectors are decreasing day by day. The Government uses a jugglery of figures to cover up its lack of attention to social services,” he said.
On Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s call to revive the Darbar Move, Karra said his party had also included it in their manifesto. He emphasized the historic and integrative purpose of the tradition, which involved shifting the capital between Jammu and Srinagar.
“The Darbar Move was not just for administrative reasons; it had a deeper philosophy of fostering regional, cultural, religious, and economic integration. The BJP, however, always tries to divide societies,” he said.
Karra accused the BJP of creating divisions between Hindus and Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir, despite the diverse demographics of both regions. “The tradition of the Darbar Move promoted unity and mutual brotherhood. It’s crucial for increasing integration across societal and regional lines, and we strongly demand its revival,” he said.
He also reiterated his party’s demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s Statehood. “Under the Union Territory status, people are being treated as casualties. Like other Union Territories, the elected Government here has limited powers,” he said, adding that Statehood is the rightful demand of the people.
Karra blamed the BJP for trying to keep people in Jammu and Kashmir in a state of uncertainty. “Statehood is our right, not a favour we’re asking for,” he said.
