BJP seeks action against AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge

BENGALURU, Apr 7: Karnataka BJP on Tuesday lodged a complaint with Director General and Inspector General of Police MA Saleem, seeking registration of a case and arrest of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge over his alleged objectionable remarks against the BJP and the RSS.
A BJP delegation comprising MLAs Muniraju, CK Ramamurthy, Dheeraj Muniraju, MLC Gopinath Reddy, and retired police officer Bhaskar Rao submitted the complaint at the State Police Headquarters on Nrupathunga Road here.
In the complaint, the BJP alleged that Kharge, while addressing an election rally in Assam, made provocative remarks by purportedly referring to a religious text and comparing the RSS and BJP to a “poisonous snake,” and calling upon Muslims to eliminate it. The delegation claimed that such statements were inflammatory and capable of inciting violence.
The BJP further contended that Kharge, as a senior national leader, holds a responsible position and that his remarks could endanger the lives of lakhs of BJP and RSS workers across the country. The party expressed apprehension that the statement could provoke attacks on its cadre.
Citing legal provisions related to communal harmony, the complaint referred to Section 196, which prohibits promotion of enmity and hatred between different religious, linguistic, or regional groups, including acts that disturb public peace or incite violence.
It also pointed out that offences committed in places of worship or during religious events attract enhanced punishment under Section 196(2).
Additionally, the BJP cited Section 197, which deals with imputations prejudicial to national integration and harmony among communities, stating that Kharge’s remarks fall under punishable offences.
The delegation urged the police to take immediate action and arrest Kharge for allegedly provoking violence against BJP and RSS members.
