Gupta said the issue goes far beyond the loss of 50 Medical seats. “The closure has also deprived local youth of several employment opportunities that would have been created with the functioning of the institution. These were jobs meant for the people of Jammu, and their loss has further weakened the region’s economy,” he said.
He alleged that efforts are being made to deepen religious divisions in Jammu to shift focus away from the genuine problems facing the region. “Flood rehabilitation has been sidelined, while unemployment and the growing drug problem continue to plague our youth. These are the real issues, but they are being ignored,” Gupta stated.
Holding the BJP accountable, he said that the atmosphere of division has come at a heavy cost to Jammu and its people. He added that the PDP demands the immediate restoration of the medical college in the larger public interest.
Gupta also raised serious questions over the role of the National Medical Commission (NMC), asking why the inspection was carried out during the vacation period and why no accountability has been fixed so far.
Stressing the urgent need to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, he said Jammu must secure better medical facilities so that residents are not compelled to seek treatment outside the state. He added that government hospitals and dispensaries should be adequately equipped to meet the needs of the population.
The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to continue highlighting public issues and working towards improved healthcare services, employment opportunities, and inclusive development in Jammu.
