BJP questions NC Govt, Omar over defence of detained AAP MLA

JAMMU, Sept 10: BJP spokesman Zorawar Singh Jamwal today questioned the National Conference (NC) Government and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s stance on AAP MLA Mehraj Malik’s remarks glorifying dreaded terrorist commanders responsible for killings of innocents.
In a sharp statement, Jamwal said it was a matter of shame that the Chief Minister had chosen to defend Malik, who has been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA). He described Malik as an “anarchist” with a history of misconduct and lawlessness, alleging that at least 18 FIRs had been registered against him in different police stations for various offences, including using derogatory language against women.
“It’s not just a single incident where he misbehaved with the District Magistrate and hurled abuses against him and his family members. This AAP MLA has a consistent record of lawlessness and disregard for authority,” Jamwal said.
He further condemned Malik’s support for terrorist Masood Azhar and accused him of attempting to unleash terror in J&K. “Do Omar Abdullah, his government, and his party NC justify Mehraj Malik’s actions?” Jamwal asked, adding that NC’s defence of Malik exposed its “double standards.”
Jamwal also referred to Malik’s alleged insult to a lady doctor with derogatory remarks, asserting that such behaviour was unbecoming of an elected representative. “It’s a matter of shame that the Chief Minister comes forward to defend an anarchist like Mehraj Malik,” he said.
Reiterating the BJP’s commitment to uphold the rule of law and dignity of citizens, Jamwal said the party would continue to expose “anarchist elements” like Malik as well as the “hypocrisy” of Omar Abdullah and the ruling NC, which, he alleged, talks of peace and development while supporting those undermining it.
