JAMMU, Aug 14: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized exhibitions and programmes on ‘Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas’ in every organizational district across the Jammu & Kashmir to mark one of the most tragic chapters in India’s history, the partition of 1947.
The exhibitions, rich with rare photographs and historical records, depicted in stark detail the unimaginable horrors suffered by millions during and after the partition.
J&K BJP president, Sat Sharma inaugurated the exhibition organized by the BJP Library Department led by Prof. Kulbhushan Mohtra, and attended the programme organized by BJP district Jammu South led by its president, Naresh Singh Jasrotia at party Headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, here. BJP vice-presidents, Rajiv Charak and Rekha Mahajan, general secretary, Baldev Singh Billawaria, MLA Ch. Vikram Randhawa, All Cells in charge, Ved Sharma, and other senior leaders were present.
Addressing the gathering, Sat Sharma said that the partition was not merely a political event, it was a human catastrophe beyond imagination. He stressed that in the lust for power, the Congress leadership, hand in glove with the British and the ambitions of Nehru and Jinnah, accepted the biggest forced displacement in human history. Crores were uprooted, lakhs slaughtered, women dishonoured, and countless children butchered. Those who survived were left to wander in the open with nothing but the clothes on their bodies, battling hunger, nature’s fury, and the humiliation of being refugees in their own motherland. He said that even today, Jammu has lakhs of families whose parents or grandparents carry the deep scars of those nights of terror.
Simultaneously, J&K BJP general secretary (Organization) Ashok Koul, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, vice-president, Priya Sethi, general secretary, Sanjita Dogra, MLAs Yudhvir Sethi and Arvind Gupta, Veenu Khanna, and others inaugurated the exhibition and attended the programme organized by BJP district Jammu led by its president Rajesh Gupta.
Ashok Koul, while addressing, said that the partition was a wound inflicted on Bharat Mata that still bleeds in the memories of our people. He said that it uprooted the cultural fabric of centuries, leaving millions to start life from zero, without homes, land, or security.
Jugal Kishore Sharma reiterated that remembering partition is not to reopen wounds, but to keep history alive so that future generations understand the value of unity, the dangers of appeasement politics, and the cost of division, that has to be paid by the generations together.
