RAJOURI, Mar 8: Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a massive protest today, blocking the Jammu-Poonch highway at the main chowk in Sunderbani, in a strong response to the remarks made by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary against Maharaja Hari Singh.
The demonstration was led by BJP district president Pritam Sharma, BJYM district president Rajat Singh Chib, mandal president Sunderbani Sukhdev Singh, mandal president Kangri Ravinder Singh, ex-sarpanch Anil Kumar and former mandal president Nasib Singh Chib.
Hundreds of BJP workers and supporters gathered near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh to express their strong resentment against the derogatory remarks made by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary regarding the last ruler of the erstwhile princely state of J&K.
Speaking at the protest, Sukhdev Singh Vicky and Nasib Singh Chib voiced their disappointment, asserting, “The Government of J&K and its representatives must refrain from making divisive and derogatory statements. Such remarks only serve to create unrest in an already sensitive region and should be immediately retracted.”
The BJP leaders demanded an unconditional apology from the Deputy CM and warned of intensified protests if corrective action was not taken. The demonstration concluded peacefully but with a firm message that any insult to Maharaja Hari Singh’s legacy will not be tolerated.
