JAMMU, Feb 14: Former minister and senior National Conference leader Ajay Kumar Sadhotra alleged that anti- Kisan policies of BJP Govt have manifold increased miseries of the farmers .
Addressing a group of farmers of Marh Assembly constituency, who approached him to express their serious concern over ignoring de-silting of canals, distributaries and khuls by BJP Govt, the NC leader alleged that BJP Govt at the Centre and in Jammu and Kashmir was doing only lip service and has adopted anti Kisan policies.
“Kisans are not even getting required water for their crops. Irrigation Department has closed canals, distributaries and khuls for de-silting and proper cleaning. But it is unfortunate that these canals, distributaries and khuls are not properly de-silted and Kisans do not get proper required irrigation water and have to face lot of difficulties while sowing especially Paddy crop,” he said.
Sadhotra further alleged that slogan of BJP Govt of making the income of the Kisan double by 2022 seems to be day dreaming and simply lollypop to Kisan.
He demanded proper desiltting of Irrigation infrastructure and emphasized the need of proper monitoring of desilting at the highest level so that Kisans get required irrigation water. “It will certainly increase Paddy and vegetable production and Kisan will take sigh of relief. Irrigation Department has enough of time for desilting, as water comes to these canals and khuls on Baisakhi, which falls on 13th of April,” he added.
