BJP discusses strategy for ULB elections

JAMMU, Feb 29: To discuss the strategy for the forthcoming elections of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), the BJP convened a meeting of State office bearers, district presidents of Jammu and Jammu West districts here, today.
The meeting was chaired by State president & MLA Sat Sharma (CA) while  State general secretaries, Dr. Narinder Singh and Harinder Gupta, Party MLAs- Kavinder Gupta and Rajesh Gupta were also on the dais.
Sat Sharma, while addressing the meeting, said that the decision of the Government to hold elections to Urban Local Bodies, including Municipal Corporat-ions, Municipal Councils and Municipal Committees, will further strengthen the democracy at grass root level and enable the people to have easy access to their elected representatives and also contribute in matters related to development at local level.
He said that the elections to these bodies were not held after 2010 and BJP had been demanding the same for long. “The previous BJP-PDP Coalition Government had initiated the process of holding these elections, which displayed the commitment of both the parties to make these bodies functional and pave way for taking democratic institutions at the door steps of common people”, said Sat Sharma and added that NC-Congress coalition was responsible for delaying elections on one pretext or the other.
Sat Sharma said that the party in the State had registered repeated splendid victories in Lok Sabha, Assembly and LAHDC elections and now it will write history by winning the ULBs well as Panchayat elections. He said that BJP activists have been contributing in the victory of party and asked them to once again gear up their activities in their respective areas so that the party candidates are in a position to get elected in large numbers.
Sharma also constituted a committee of party leaders to interact with the BJP activists at Wards level and seek their views and suggestions for mobilizing the public opinion in favour of the Party.
BJP leaders including Yudhvir Sethi, Mamta Singh, Rajni Sethi, Pramodh Kapahi, Pawan Khajuria, Rajinder Sharma, Vikram Randhawa, Sanjay Baru, MLA Priya Sethi, Anuradha Charak, Aseem Gupta, Chander Mohan Gupta, Balbir Ram Rattan, Prof. Virender Gupta, Brig. Anil Gupta, S.S. Bijral, Munish Sharma, Virenderjeet Singh, Jaidev Rajwal, Purnima Sharma, Arun Chhibber, Praduman Singh, Subhash Jandiyal, Ayodhaya Gupta, Baldev Singh Billawaria, Omi Khajuria and Arvind Gupta attended the meeting.
