JAMMU, June 26: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today credited the PM Modi’s vision for sanctioning of Rs 10,637 crore worth of infrastructure projects, including two strategically significant tunnels—Pir Ki Gali Tunnel on the Mughal Road and Sadhna Tunnel on the Kupwara Highway.
The announcement was made by BJP spokesperson Arun Gupta during a press conference held here today.
Addressing the media, Arun Gupta hailed the approvals as a “major victory” for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, crediting the outcome to “intense and continuous efforts” by the state unit in coordination with the Central leadership.
He said, “These are not just announcements but projects that will be executed with seriousness, as seen in BJP’s track record of fulfilling developmental commitments.”
“The Mughal Road remains cut off for nearly six months every year. The Pir Ki Gali Tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity, offering a reliable alternative highway route, especially for the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch,” he added.
Dr Tahir Choudhary, BJP spokesperson emphasized the strategic significance of the tunnels, especially in enhancing troop movement, emergency response times and boosting tourism infrastructure in the region.
Another BJP spokesperson, Vikram Malhotra echoed similar sentiments, calling the Sadhna Tunnel a “game-changer” for north Kashmir, especially the border district of Kupwara.
