RAMBAN, June 18: A large number of BJP and BJYM workers here today staged a protest demonstration and took to streets against the decision of J&K government to make Urdu a compulsory subject for the post of Naib Tehsildar (NT).
The protest was led by State BJYM president, Arun Prabhat and former MLA and District president BJP Ramban, Neelam Langeh.
The protesters assembled at T-Chowk Ramban and raised slogans against NC led government for discrimination against non-Urdu candidates.
They called imposition of Urdu as deliberate attempt to exclude deserving candidates from Jammu division and said that such regional discrimination will not be tolerated.
The protesters urged J&K Service Selection Board, J&K LG and J&K government to reconsider the decision.
Prominent among protesters were Renuka Katoch, DDC member, Jagveer Das, DDC member, Abhishek Slathia, State general secretary BJYM, Gurdeep Singh Chib, District general secretary BJP Ramban and many others.
