JAMMU, June 27: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today slammed BJP for betrayal on the restoration of Statehood to J&K.
In a handout, Sadhotra stated that the prolonged denial of political rights to J&K people has significantly undermined the region’s development and has diluted the sense of political empowerment.
“BJP can no longer hide behind vague statements,” the NC leader said reminding the Central Government of its solemn affirmation made before the Supreme Court regarding eventual restoration of Statehood to J&K.
He said that the oft-repeated rhetoric of restoring Statehood at an ‘appropriate time’ cannot remain an open-ended phrase and the government must come out with a definitive time frame.
Sadhotra said that the people of J&K have not forgotten the assurances made post abrogation of Article 370, which included categorical commitment to restore full Statehood.
He welcomed the assertion of NC president, Dr. Farooq Abdullah that if Centre fails in restoring the Statehood, the party will approach Supreme Court.
