JAMMU, Feb 12: Blaming BJP for betraying the trust of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 by backtracking the promises to them made during last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Congress has demanded that the complete package for their relief and rehabilitation as recommended by the previous NC-Congress Government should be sanctioned by Modi Govt at the earliest.
Addressing a series of meetings in different parts of Nowshera-Sunderbani during his three days tour of the area, former MLC and chief spokesperson PCC Ravinder Sharma accused BJP and of befooling the refugees of PoJK and West Pakistan during Lok Sabha and Assembly elections by making tall promises to them who constitute big chunk of voters in Jammu province especially in Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, Samba and Kathua and Udhampur districts. He said that BJP promised more than 25 lakh per family besides various other things to the DPs and refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 besides grant of citizenship to the West Pakistan refugees.
As the Modi Govt completes its five years term in couple of months, even 1/3rd of displaced families in the State have not received the meager amount of Rs 5.5 lakh as against recommendation of State to the Centre of the amount of Rs 25 lakh per family. Thousands of files complete in all respect are getting dust for this part of the amount, without any reason only to be released just before polling days. There were three other components of the State’s recommendations but nothing has happened to them. The left out families of DPs including those settled outside have yet not been included besides WP refugees are still deprived of the relief amount.
Sharma asked the party delegates in the area to participate in the scheduled convention on February 17 at Jammu to be addressed by LOP in Rajaya Sabha GN Azad.
