BJP answerable for decade-long negligence: Sadhotra

JAMMU, Aug 30: NC additional general secretary, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra here today visited Tawi Island area of Marh which was hit by recent flash floods and interacted with the affected people.
Speaking on the occasion Sadhotra said that BJP’s attempt to malign Omar Abdullah led Government was not only malicious but also an insult to the people who are still reeling under the devastation caused by floods, landslides and cloudbursts.
He said that Omar Government has released Rs. 200 crore for immediate restoration works post Ramban and Chashoti landslides.
“The Chief Minister himself is monitoring the situation personally and ensuring that the relief should reach the worst-hit areas,” the NC leader maintained adding: “The Ministers and officials are on ground 24×7 coordinating rescue, relief and restoration efforts.”
Hitting at BJP over illegal mining, Sadhotra said that BJP has been in power both at the Centre and in J&K during the past decade and they did nothing to evolve preventive measures, strengthen embankments or check illegal mining which has weakened riverbeds and the present damages are in fact direct result of BJP’s criminal negligence.
He said that people of Tawi Island have faced huge loss of property, belongings and crops.
The NC leader talked to Principal Secretary Power and Chief Engineer PHE and demanded immediate restoration of power and water supply. He also talked to SDM South and requested for intensive verification of losses due to flood by the revenue staff.
