JAMMU, Dec 19: Activists of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today staged a massive demonstration at Muthi and blocked Akhnoor road for three hours in protest against the Tehsildar North, Jammu and Patwari Halka, Damana who were demanding Rs 15 lakh from a farmer belonging to SC community for transfer of 28 kanals of his ancestral land on his name.
The protestors led by district BJP president, Jammu Rural, Omi Khajuria and other party leaders Mukesh Sharma and Pawan Salathia raised slogans against the Revenue Department and demanded immediate action against the two revenue officials for demanding bribe from a poor farmer for transferring his ancestral land in his name after the death of his father.
However to save the situation from taking critical turn, the District administration has attached the Patwari and sought report about the Tehsildar North from SDM concerned so that the action under rules can also be taken against him.
Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Rajiv Ranjan told Excelsior that the ADC had visited the spot and she had issued orders for attachment of the Patwari and also sought report about tehsildar from SDM so that action can be initiated against him under rules.
The road blockade was only lifted by the protestors on the assurance of ADC and they warned that incase the Department failed to take action under rules against the erring officials, the people will be forced to intensify agitation and they will not allow such corrupt officials to rule the roost and fleece the poor masses especially when the Prime Minster Narendra Modi has waged a war at national level against corruption and corrupt practices in the Government departments.
There was a huge traffic jam on the Akhnoor road right from Damana to Top bridge and some drivers diverted their vehicles from other routes to reach city and Akhnoor.
BJP district president, Omi Khajuria said that they will not tolerate corruption under present rule when Prime Minister has given a Clarian call to weed out it from public life.
He said the poor farmer Laxman Dass Bhagat of Damana belonging to down trodden community had approached the Patwari Damana for transfer of 28 kanals of his ancestral land on his name after the death of his father and both Patwari and Tehsildar North demanded a bribe of Rs 15 lakh and they had taken one lakh from him in advance which the poor farmer had taken on loan from his relatives.
Khajuria said after paying the money the officials were reluctant to transfer the land on his name and demanded full payment of Rs 15 lakh which the poor farmer was unable to manage. In this regard he has given an application in Police Station Damana also, Khajuria added.
He said the issue was taken by the district Unit of BJP with the public representative of area, Bali Bhagat also and he was requested to get the corrupt revenue officials shifted besides he also approached to SDM but no action was taken against them.
“We also brought the issue in the notice of BJP State president, Sat Sharma yesterday and made it clear to him that district unit will launch the agitation against the corrupt revenue officials’’ from tomorrow’’, he said, adding “we intended to hold protest in front of SDM’s Office at Janipur but he was not present there so we decided to block the road as large number of party activists had assembled who approached me that protest should be held against such officers’’.
Khajuria also warned that in case the corrupt officers were not taken to task they will be forced to intensify agitation as BJP has promised to give the corruption free Government and Prime Minister has launched a crusade against the same at national level.
