‘Statehood only when terrorism is eradicated’

Srinagar, Nov 17: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) UT spokesperson Altaf Thakur today accused the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of “glorifying terrorism,” warning them to stop doing so and allow security agencies to carry out their duties.

Addressing a press conference here, Thakur also said that Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir will be restored only after terrorism is completely rooted out.
“A blast happens in Nowgam and Dr Farooq demands statehood. There is a commitment for statehood, but amid these incidents, statehood will not come,” he said.
“Till terrorism and terrorists are not eradicated, Statehood will not come,” he added.
Altaf urged NC president and former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah to “strengthen the hands” of the Centre and the Lieutenant Governor so that terrorism can be eliminated from J&K, asserting that only then can Statehood be restored.
He alleged that after the Delhi attack, the PDP and NC “started glorifying terrorism and terrorists,” warning them to stop.
“What comes first is national security, and then everything else. Is Mehbooba Mufti going to decide who is innocent and who is not? Leave it to the agencies-the police and the Army,” he said.
“Anyone who is arrested is picked up after full investigation and evidence. You have seen the terror network: the way white-collar terrorism has come to the fore. Nobody would have suspected them.”
Thakur said the NC and PDP “keep saying that Kashmiris are Indians,” suggesting that they themselves may have doubts about it, but the BJP has none.
“NC and PDP keep saying, ‘Aren’t Kashmiris Indians?’ They may have doubts, but there is no doubt in the BJP that a common Kashmiri is an Indian. We are proud that we are Indians; we do not have any doubts,” he said.
“I request these leaders to take care of their parties and let the agencies do their job. This is going to be the last war to end terrorism.”
He said that doctors are considered “gods on earth”, meant to save lives, and these people, he said, “are now hell-bent on killing people in the country.”
“How will they be treated? Will Mehbooba decide that? Will the country’s agencies act on what Mehbooba says? A pro-terrorism agenda will not work. Do not create hurdles in the investigation-let the police do their job,” he said.
Thakur also questioned why some doctors had turned to terrorism, stressing that such attempts will be foiled and terrorism crushed.
“These doctors became doctors because of the taxpayers of this country. They studied here, and now they wage war against the nation. It will not be acceptable at all.”
At the same time, he urged the youth of J&K not to be misled by such propaganda.
“I want to tell the children of J&K: there are no h?r or heavens waiting for you. Heaven comes by working for the country and for your parents.”
