RAJOURI, July 31: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), through its Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (GoI), organized a two-day residential training program here.
The training program was conducted for mentors of 30 BIS Standards Clubs and one additional Science teacher from each school in the Rajouri and Poonch districts, with more than 50 participants attending the event.
The program was inaugurated by Mohd Iqbal, Chief Education Officer, Rajouri. He appreciated the initiative of BIS in conducting such a meaningful training program in a remote region like Rajouri and emphasized that hosting a capacity-building event of this scale in this far-flung area is a significant achievement.
Welcoming the participants, Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS JKBO, underlined the importance of the Learning Science via Standards (LSVS) initiative and its integration into the school curriculum. He highlighted how this program connects theoretical science with its real-life applications and urged educators to adopt this approach to make science education more interactive and impactful. He also explained the objectives and operational requirements of BIS Standards Clubs and briefed participants on various BIS initiatives undertaken in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
The technical sessions were led Rajeev Pandita, who served as a key resource person. He delivered a comprehensive presentation on BIS’s functions, including standardization, product certification, laboratory testing, and quality control training-giving participants valuable insights into BIS’s role in enhancing consumer safety and industrial quality.
Mehak Rasool and Syed Sanjeeda, both subject experts and key resource persons from BIS, conducted in-depth sessions on the LSVS concept. They guided the participants through hands-on methods to recognize authentic ISI-marked products, understand hallmarking schemes for gold, and verify HUID numbers on ornaments.
On the second day, mentors and Science teachers delivered engaging group presentations on Electric Iron, Helmet, LPG Cylinder, Pencil, and Ceiling Fans. A Felicitation award was presented to dedicated mentors, as well as to District Nodal Officers of the School Education Department – Anupam Shrikhandia (Rajouri) and Harish Sharma (Poonch) – in recognition of their outstanding contributions.
