AGARTALA, Dec 12: Bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh, has resumed yesterday at the Akhaura multi-use Integrated Check Post (ICP) after ten days. The Exporters Importers Association of Tripura (EIAT) called off the strike after getting assurance from of tariff review by Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) and Land port Authority of India (LPAI).
EIAT had launched indefinite strike protesting hike of transport charge by CWC after inauguration of the ICP last month. Transport tariff had tripled and CWC did not pay any attention to the demand of EIAT, which insisted to suspend all trade at Akhaura since Nov 28 last.
“At the resumption of trade 30 trucks loaded with Bangladeshi goods – fish, dry fish and stone entered in ICP but at the beginning no load has crossed the border “, Mr Biswas stated. EIAT re-start the trade for 50 days after tri-partite meeting under the chairmanship of Industries and Commerce Minister of Tripura Jitendra Choudhury last week.
The tariff rates at Agartala-Akhaura ICP were found highest compared to all other Land-Custom Stations of the country in terms of volume of business but central authorities had agreed to review the tariff rate by next one month. (AGENCIES)
