Biker killed in hit-and-run, accused held within 2 hours

JAMMU, Aug 19: Police in Jammu’s Satwari area have solved a hit-and-run case within two hours after a truck knocked down a biker near the Fourth Tawi Bridge here, leaving him dead.
The victim was identified as Pawan Kumar, 45, son of Hans Raj and resident of Rajpura Mangotrian, Shakti Nagar.
A police official said he was on way to his home on a motorcycle (JK02BS 3198) when he was hit by a truck near the Fourth Tawi Bridge around 2:45 PM.
“He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to GMC Jammu, where doctors declared him dead,” the police official said.
He said taking cognisance of the matter, a case under FIR number 169/2025 U/S 281/106 BNS was registered at Police Station Satwari.
Soon after the incident, he said, police teams launched an investigation and examined CCTV footage from the area.
Accordingly, the police official said, the vehicle involved in the accident was identified as a truck bearing registration number JK02CR 2854.
“While the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has been seized, its driver has also been arrested within 2 hours,” he said.
Earlier, the wailing family members of the deceased individual, while speaking with media persons, had demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
“The accused deserves severe punishment for fleeing the crime scene while leaving the victim in a pool of blood,” they said.
