JAMMU, Aug 2: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Gandhi Nagar area have busted a bike lifting gang operating in the city and recovered 10 stolen two-wheelers in a major crackdown.
Two accused were also arrested by the Police during the operation, which was carried out under the supervision of SDPO South and the overall guidance of SP South Jammu Ajay Sharma.
A police official said several motorcycle thefts had been reported in the Gandhi Nagar area in recent months.
Acting on these complaints, he said, police teams from Gandhi Nagar Police Station and Digiana Police Post were formed, with SHO Gandhi Nagar, Inspector Arun Prakash leading them.
The teams used technical surveillance, CCTV footage, and local inputs to trace the suspects identified as Adarsh Kumar alias Arun of Chak Abtara, Bishnah, and Sanjay Kumar alias Sanju of Pattu, Vijaypur, Samba, he said.
During questioning, the police official said, the duo confessed to their involvement in multiple vehicle thefts.
Based on their disclosures, police recovered 10 stolen two-wheelers worth around Rs 8-9 lakh from their possessions, he said, adding that these include five motorcycles with registration numbers, one scooty with a partial number, and four vehicles without number plates.
SP South Jammu appreciated the prompt action of the police teams, especially the SHO of Gandhi Nagar and officials from Digiana Police Post and reiterated police’s commitment to public safety and firm action against criminal elements.
