JAMMU, July 13: An old adage ‘ek aur ek gayarah’ (two heads are better than one) fits for 16-year-old Amit Kumar and 22-year-old Shravan Kumar, both hailing from Bihar and ‘on wheels’ to Amarnath Cave and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine from their respective hometowns.
Skater Amit met cyclist Shravan at Meerut. The duo was on its way to the holy destinations of Amarnath Cave in the South Kashmir Himalayas and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in the Trikuta Hills of Reasi district in the Jammu region.
The duo, who coincidentally met each other en route, joined hands to chase their dreams of reaching the holy places on skates and by bicycle.
The duo expressed gratitude to the almighty and hoped that they will successfully fulfil their dream.
A student of the ninth standard, Amit Kumar (16), said, “So far I have completed my 26-day journey (by Saturday) on skates that started from Bihar. Destinations are Shri Amarnath Cave and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.”
Amit, who learnt skating some 18 months back, said, “I have visited Kedarnath and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine earlier also on skates and this time after visiting Amarnath Cave will again visit to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.”
Sharing his daily routine, Amit said, “I am always on the move with intervals and take halts at religious places and dhabas for meals.”
Born to Gopal Dass and Munni Devi and a younger son in the family, Amit said, “I want to create a world record and have a plan to visit Dubai on skates.”
“I have a dream to visit Dubai on skates after a few months but before that, I have to practice a lot,” he opined, appreciating people from all walks of life for extending support to him during his journey in his mission.
Shravan, 22, also from Bihar, said, “I started my journey to Amarnath Cave and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi by bicycle. I have a firm belief that God always has different plans and I met Amit on the way.”
“For the first time, I am visiting Jammu and Kashmir and previous to that, I have completed ‘Char Dham Yatra’ and 12 Jyotirlinga Yatra riding a bicycle. It was a next level experience,” said a smiling Shravan.
Shravan, who completed 14000 kilometres by bicycle so far, covering 14 states of India, said, “I always wanted to explore beautiful India, meet people, know their cultures and traditions.”
“We are in Jammu and people here are amazing and loving. We will carry a message of peace and harmony along with us when we return to our places,” they both expressed. (UNI)
