HYDERABAD, July 6 : The historic Bibi Ka Alam procession, held on the 10th day of Muharram, concluded peacefully in Hyderabad on Sunday, marking the culmination of a ten-day period of mourning observed by the Shia Muslim community.
The procession, which began from Ashurkhana in Dabeerpura (Darul Shifa), saw the ceremonial “Alam” being carried on Lakshmi, an elephant brought specially from Karnataka. The grand procession moved through the city’s key thoroughfares before concluding at Masjid-e-Ilahi, Chaderghat, on the banks of the Musi River.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner and Director General, C.V. Anand, personally monitored the security arrangements from the historic Charminar. He issued timely instructions to the officers on the ground to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the event. For the entire 10-day mourning period of Muharram, the Hyderabad City Police had enforced strict security and effective traffic management across the city.
Over 3,000 police personnel were deployed to maintain order, safeguard participants, and manage the large crowds that gathered to observe the solemn occasion.
Senior officials, including Vikram Singh Mann, (Additional CP, Law & Order), D. Joel Davis, (Joint CP, Traffic), Smt. Rakshitha Krishna Murthy, (DCP, CAR Headquarters), and Ms Sneha Mehra, (DCP, South Zone), were also present, overseeing operations alongside Commissioner Anand.
At Charminar, Hyderabad Police offered garlands and Dattis (offerings) to the Alam as a mark of respect. Commending the efforts of the police personnel and the cooperation of the public, Commissioner Anand expressed his gratitude to the Shia community for their support in ensuring a peaceful observance.
The successful and incident-free conclusion of the Bibi Ka Alam procession stood as a testament to the coordinated efforts of the Hyderabad Police and the disciplined participation of the community.
