JAMMU, Dec 25: Bharatiya Yog Sansthan (BYS), a non-profit organization engaged in the promotion of yoga and Indian culture, organized “Mahila Yog Shakti Diwas” at its ashram in Gole Gujral, Jammu, highlighting the role of yoga in strengthening women’s empowerment, health and overall well-being.
The programme witnessed participation of over 600 ‘sadhaks’, with women forming a major segment of the gathering, reflecting growing engagement with yogic practices among women.
The event also marked a significant milestone for the organization as it celebrated the conferment of the ‘National Yoga Award 2025’, bestowed by the Prime Minister of India on December 19, 2025. The prestigious recognition honours Bharatiya Yog Sansthan’s sustained contribution towards spreading yoga at the national and international levels and its efforts in promoting holistic health through accessible and community-oriented initiatives.
Arvind Gupta, MLA Jammu West, attended the programme as the chief guest, while Arunima Sinha, Lifestyle Consultant, was present as the guest of honour. Addressing the gathering, Gupta spoke on the importance of yoga in daily life and highlighted the Sansthan’s role in taking yoga to the grassroots by offering free training and facilities.
Mohini Sharma, prantiya member of Bharatiya Yog Sansthan J&K, traced the organization’s journey since its establishment on April 10, 1967, and informed that the Sansthan is presently running more than 4,500 yoga centres across India and abroad, reaching thousands of practitioners every day.
State president Satyapal dedicated the celebration and the national honour to women practitioners, stating that Mahila Yog Shakti Diwas symbolizes the strength and transformative power of yoga in women’s lives. He termed the National Yoga Award 2025 as recognition of collective dedication towards spreading the message of yoga and building a healthier society.
The programme included lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest, Saraswati Vandana, demonstrations of yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation sessions, followed by a cultural programme featuring songs and skits.
