JAMMU, Jan 12: Bhartiya Kala Sangam (BKS) has demanded Regional Cinema Policy for J&K on the pattern of those existing in neighboring Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.
In a press conference here today, Ramesh Chib, Director BKS said, J&K Government should provide funding and subsidy for promoting and making regional and short films by local producers.
He also demanded exemption of Entertainments Tax on regional films and said that Abhinav Theatre and Tagore Hall may be allowed to screen such films free of cost.
Talking to reporters Chib said that direction should be issued to the owners of private cinema hall for screening regional films on priority.
BKS Director further demanded framing of Cultural Policy in the Union Territory of J&K.
He also highlighted the scarcity of staff and funds with Doordarshan (DD) Kendra Jammu and demanded that DD Kendra Jammu should be named as Duggar Channel and it should also be upgraded to satellite channel.
Chib urged the Lieutenant Governor of J&K to look into their demands.
The press conference was attended by Mohan Singh, Janak Khajuria, Madan Ranglia, Surinder Manhas, Neelam Kumar Phull, Devinder Kohli, T.R Sharma, Shiv Dev Singh, Rajinder Samyal, Kusum Tickoo and Kamal Sharma.
