JAMMU, May 9: Continuing his extensive visit to shelling- hit villages of border areas, which are under constant shelling from Pakistan, JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla today interacted with dislocated border dwellers at a camp at Radha Swami Satsang Ashram, Thandi Khui in Vijaypur and other camps.
Bhalla was accompanied by former Minister Yash Paul Kundal, Congress District president Sanjeev Sharma, Babal Gupta Vinod Kumar Choudhary (Baba). They distributed eatables and other basic necessity items and appeals other to come forward to extend help and support to suffering people. He expressed solidarity with the affected villagers and made a strong plea for making available all the facilities for them at various camps across the constituency and other vulnerable areas. He also sought deployment of mobile medical teams and adequate transport for shifting the people of the most affected areas along International Border at safer places.
“In view of the ongoing hot spell, a synergized effort is needed to ensure uninterrupted safe drinking water and power supply in temporary shelter places for the displaced people”, Bhalla said, urging the administration to also look after the abandoned cattle by panic ridden people. The former Minister condemned continued shelling from across the border and sought matching response from the security forces to end skirmishes. The people have been living under perpetual threat and the fear psychosis has brought life to complete standstill, he added.
Bhalla expressed grave concern over injuries inflicted to civilians and sought their free and specialized treatment. He lauded the resilience of the border people in braving brunt of Pakistan hostilities and said entire Congress cadre stands by them at this hour of crisis.
He wished immediate recovery to the injured and called for all necessary measures for shifting the people from the forward areas vulnerable to the unprovoked shelling due to volatile situation prevailing along the International Border. He also took stock of the arrangements made for the people lodged in the camp.
He expressed confidence that government stands firmly with them and will ensure that all necessary support is provided to them promptly,” he said, demanding instructions to the local administration to ensure uninterrupted provision of essential services including food supplies, healthcare, sanitation and temporary housing.
Bhalla hoped that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government will be actively working on enhancing bunker infrastructure, restoring essential supplies and strengthening emergency communication systems to ensure their safety and well-being.
