JAMMU, June 20: JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla today launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central Government and the UT Administration, questioning their failure to relocate Rohingya and Bangladeshi refugees from Jammu despite consistently labeling them a “serious security threat.”
Addressing a public gathering at Rajiv Nagar, Bhalla said that even after 11 years of BJP rule at the Centre and direct control in J&K, no concrete steps have been taken to shift these refugees to other parts of the country.
“If the BJP genuinely considers Rohingyas and Bangladeshi migrants a threat to national security, why hasn’t any action been taken to address this in more than a decade?” Bhalla asked, “Instead, they’ve only created fear and panic among the people of Jammu.”
He pointed out that Rohingyas first arrived in Jammu in 1999 during the NDA regime and questioned why BJP leaders, including those who held power locally, failed to act then or now.
Bhalla accused the party of using the issue for vote-bank politics rather than ensuring real security.
The cong leader also raised alarm over the declining state of public infrastructure and services in the region.
He highlighted the abandoned school project in Qasim Nagar, where construction stopped after 2014 despite a sanctioned cost of Rs 70 lakh and also criticized the lack of upgradation at schools in Bhatindi and Narwal Bala, saying children continue to suffer due to administrative apathy.
Bhalla voiced serious concern over frequent unscheduled power cuts despite the installation of smart meters, especially during the ongoing intense heat wave.
“The aged, ailing and young children are the worst affected,” he said.
On the water crisis, Bhalla said residents are struggling for basic drinking water and often have to pay for water tankers.
He recalled that during the Congress Government, initiatives like the Boria Filtration Plant were launched to meet local needs, projects that now lie neglected.
Reiterating his demand for the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Bhalla accused the BJP of betraying the people of Jammu.
“They promised Statehood before elections, but have conveniently forgotten it afterward. The people must now prepare for a democratic struggle to reclaim their rights and dignity,” he added.
Among others who were present included Kamal Singh, Latish Sharma, Pardeep Bhalla, Dewan Chand, Sandeep Dogra, Kuldeep Kumar, Master Parasram Baloria, Vishal Kumar, Shashi Sayal, Tamma, Puteena, Lachhu Ram and others.
