Bhalla reviews functioning of Housing Board

JAMMU, Jan 31 : Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today reviewed functioning of Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board at a high level meeting here at Housing Board Guest House at Gandhi Nagar.
Commissioner/Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department Jeet Lal Gupta, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Kuldeep Khajuria, Managing Director Housing Board Kiran Wattal, Secretary Housing Board Rampal Sharma besides other senior officers of Housing Board were present in the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Bhalla asked the officers to prepare the inventory of Housing Board assets besides available land across the State, adding that Government was keen to develop new colonies under master plan under self financing schemes. He stressed the need to put the assets of the board to best use and revenue generation.
He said development of housing colonies in urban as well as in rural areas of the State was receiving main focus of the Government. He said the colonies would be developed on modern lines with all basic amenities like safe drinking water, road connectivity, electricity, parking, play field, super bazaar and recreational parks.
The Minister asked for effective implementation of centrally sponsored Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana (RGAY) scheme for rehabilitation of slum dwellers, adding that the scheme aims at to tackle the problems of slums in a definitive manner. He said Central and State Governments were committed to improve the living condition of homeless.
The Minister said that the Government has ensured people-friendly administration in the State, adding that several initiatives have been taken in various sectors to facilitate the people.
Highlighting the achievements, Mr Bhalla said that the Government has developed Indira Gandhi Green Belt Park at Housing Colony Channi Rama on 60 kanals of land after evicting the encroachments . He said Government has constructed 108 flats at Gandhi Nagar, 57 in Shastri Nagar, 204 in Channi Rama, 18 in Udhampur, 65 under NABARD clusters, besides 42 in Bagh-i-Mehtab in Kashmir valley under self-financing schemes. He said Housing Board has constructed 1240 flats under Rental Housing Scheme for Darbar Move Employees on behalf of EState Department at Tulsi Bagh, Bemina in Kashmir and Talab Tillo, B C Road, Sarwal, Ahata Amar Singh, Ahata Poonch House and Gulami Bagh in Jammu.
Later, Bhalla also visited Trikuta Nagar Sector-1 and kick started construction work of deep drain, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 7.5 lakh. He asked the executing agency to complete the work within time frame.
