Excelsior Correspondent Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Jan 29: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today laid foundation stone of a Children Park at Trikuta Nagar. Interacting with the inhabitants of Ward No. 54, Mr. Bhalla said the park involving a cost of Rs. 11 lakh would be developed on modern lines with fun games and swings for the children, walkways, provision for illumination, landscaping, benches and facility of irrigation. He asked the JMC to complete the works within two months to ensure early benefit to the children of the locality. The Minister said that Government was committed to ensure clean and healthy environment in urban parts of the State, adding that a comprehensive plan has been prepared to develop all the parks with modern facilities. He said that Jammu city is being developed in all respects to showcase it as a major attraction for the tourists visiting the State. Mr. Bhalla called upon the people to avoid littering the park and help in maintaining the place clean. He asked the JMC to gear up men and machinery to maintain and renovate all the recreational parks situated in City of Temples. Later, Mr. Bhalla visited Rajiv Nagar in Narwal and attended a function organised by Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam Welfare Society (VKWS) in the premises of Sarvodaya Middle School. Managing Director Housing Board, Kiran Wattal, President VKWS Ved Ghai, Executive Engineer, R&B D. K. Rampaul, besides members of the society, students and parents were present on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bhalla called upon the students to be ambassadors of peace and work towards conservation of environment. He called upon the people to abstain from putting debris in open spaces, adding that such practices create unhygienic conditions. He said Rajiv Nagar would soon have improved basic amenities as Housing Board have been asked to conduct survey of the slum Basti and prepare a project under Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojna envisaging development of the area. The Minister said Government has sanctioned Rs.19 crore under BSUP for construction of Urban Poor Township at Sunjwan, adding that work on it was nearing completion. He said after its inauguration, the urban poor of city would get two-room flats on nominal rates. He said the Government has approved Rs. 1.19 crore for construction of multipurpose community hall at Rajiv Nagar, adding that the double storey hall would be completed by November this year. Mr. Bhalla also went round the area and assessed the development related problems of the people.
