BGSBU hosts lecture on contemporary relevance of Muslim philosophy

JAMMU, Apr 26: Department of Islamic Studies, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri, organized an extension lecture by Prof Latif Hussain Shah Kazmi, former Chairman, Department of Philosophy, Aligarh Muslim University, on the theme “Relevance of Muslim Philosophy in Modern Times.”
Prof Jawaid Iqbal, Vice Chancellor, emphasized the importance of organizing such academic events in the future while Prof Warsi, Dean Academic Affairs in his message stated that such intellectual engagements are crucial for nurturing critical thinking among students and for fostering a deeper understanding of our rich philosophical traditions.
During the session, Prof Kazmi highlighted the significance of rational inquiry in Islamic tradition, focusing on key Quranic concepts like Tadabur and Tafakur, and emphasized the contemporary relevance of Islamic philosophical thought in addressing modern intellectual, ethical and social challenges.
The session was chaired by Dr Naseem Gul, Head, Department of Islamic Studies, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students of the Departments of Islamic Studies, Urdu, Persian, Gojri, Pahari and Kashmiri.
Faculty members actively engaged in the discussion, stressing the role of Islamic philosophy in fostering dialogue and tolerance. Dr Naseem Gul, in his presidential address, urged students to take philosophical studies seriously.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Ishfaq Amin Parrey and a vibrant question-and-answer session.
