The Udhampur Military Station was honoured with the ‘Best Green Military Station’ distinction, while the Dehradun Military Station was the ‘Runner-up’ in this category. Concurrently with the resounding global call for environmental preservation, the Indian Army has initiated the ‘Eco-Preservation’ endeavour to propagate afforestation and diligently safeguard the environment. Extensive afforestation camps and campaigns in remote rural communities are part of the Northern Army Command Headquarters area. It is noteworthy that the Army has incorporated verdant zones into numerous cantonments, barracks, pickets, and posts. The Indian Army stands as a unique exemplar among the world’s armed forces by establishing specialised units exclusively dedicated to ecological preservation. The Environmental Task Force (ETF) has played a pivotal role in the reclamation of deteriorated lands and the conservation of biodiversity. Sustained efforts have paid. Exceptional exertions have been channelled into amplifying the verdant expanse by UMS, thereby achieving a remarkable feat by surpassing Pune Cantonment’s foremost position.

The unwavering dedication to conceive, strategize, and execute this endeavour is an indispensable component of the success realised by the UMS. This outcome is the culmination of ceaseless and assiduous commitment spanning numerous years, with numerous officers having made valuable contributions to bring about the desired result. Such a monumental task can only be accomplished through a protracted and sustained campaign.
