Bedi supports Justice Verma recommendations for amending law related to sexual harassment

SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, Jan 28: Former IPS officer-turned-social activist Kiran Bedi today said she fully supported the Justice Verma recommendations for amending the law related to sexual harassment which will end immunity for members of armed forces if involved in cases like rape.
“If a man in uniform, be it a policeman or Army man, commits rape, he should face trial under civil law and not court martial. I fully support the Justice Verma recommendation on this,” Bedi told reporters on the sidelines of a scholarship distribution function organized by Aryans Group of College, Chandigarh.
Dr Bedi, a member of India Against Corruption, said she also supported the recommendation regarding action against superior officers of belt forces for failing to act in cases where such an offence is committed by a subordinate and is brought to their notice.
She has impressed upon the needy and deserving students of J&K to work hard and remain steadfast in their endeavor to achieve higher education and fulfill their dreams.
Dr Bedi along with Prof Talat Ahmed, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir felicitated Rashid Makhdoomi, Printer and Publisher Greater Kashmir, Sajad Bazaz Head Corporate Communications, JK Bank, Mandeep Singh from FM radio and GN War from SN Das Gupta College for their contribution in popularizing the nature of various loan schemes.
Earlier Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges said that around 250 students from J&K have joined them over the last 2 years who were financially supported by J&K Bank.
Later, in Jammu, Dr Kiran Bedi said that deserving, needy and desired candidates should pay one part of the fee while another part of the fees should be financed by JK Bank in the shape of education loan and rest of the fees should be paid by Aryans Group as scholarship.
She also awarded scholarships to the meritorious students being selected by Aryans Group in Scholarship Mela that includes Jagdish Raj, Mandeep Singh, Manish, Kapil Gorka, Owais Ahmad, Abid, Dar Israural Haq, Nazim Khursheed, Shafqat Rashid, Muzzafar, Aadil, Jagdish Raj, Zainab-u-Nisa, Abid Hussain Bhat, Samrah Zahoor Samoon, Ahrar Shafi Gani, Muzamil Bashir, Aksa Shafi and Shahnawaz etc.
