JAMMU, Jan 29: The Beating Retreat ceremony at Maulana Azad Stadium, here this evening marked the grand finale of this year’s Republic Day celebrations witnessed by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand.
Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir, MLC Sham Lal Bhagat, ADGPs K. Rajendra, Ram Lubhaya, Dr. Shesh Pal Vaid, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pardeep Gupta and other senior officers of Army, Civil, Police and Security Forces and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
A scintillating and colorful brass band and pipes and drums show was presented by the Army, BSF and J&K Police on the occasion. The contingents received great applause from the audience.
The ‘Jai Ho’ presented by combined brass band of BSF and J&K police received the thunderous applause from the spectators.
The function concluded with a joint item of ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara’.
Deputy Chief Minister gave away prizes to various brass band and pipes and drum contingents for their outstanding display on the occasion. He also gave away prizes to the winners of march past, cultural items presented at Republic Day parade. The Director School Education Dev Lata received the award for best tableau.
The spectacular fireworks added colour to the ceremony.
