JAMMU, Oct 17: Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Academy (BDSA) J&K has urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take necessary action on the remaining demands submitted by the Academy for the welfare and empowerment of the Dalit and other marginalized communities in the Union Territory.
In a statement issued here, B R Kundal, former Chief Secretary and Cabinet Minister, who serves as the president of the BDSA J&K, appealed to the Chief Minister to find time from his busy schedule to review the pending demands outlined in the memorandum earlier submitted by the Academy. He said these measures are vital for ensuring justice and upliftment of the most neglected and underprivileged sections of society.
Kundal recalled that a deputation of the BDSA had earlier met the Chief Minister and submitted a memorandum containing seven key demands highlighting issues concerning Dalits and other marginalized groups of Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief Minister, he said, had given a patient hearing and assured that the concerns raised would be examined by senior officials of the Government.
The BDSA president expressed satisfaction that one of the major demands—regarding the constitution of a High-Powered Committee under the chairmanship of the Lt Governor to oversee effective disposal of complaints under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1968 (as amended in 2015)—has already been positively considered.
Reaffirming the Academy’s resolve to continue its mission, Kundal said the BDSA remains committed to promoting equality, social justice and communal harmony across J&K.
