JAMMU, Dec 23: A Committee on Environment, under the chairmanship of Mohammad Yousaf Tarigami, today visited the BBIA Bhawan, Bari Brahmana, to review environmental and industrial issues concerning the region.
The Committee, comprising four other MLAs, visited the BBIA complex to assess the impact of industrial activities and hazardous waste on human health, flora, fauna, and agricultural land, and to review the status of ongoing measures for maintaining ecological balance and environmental protection. The committee was also accompanied by local MLA Chander Prakash Ganga.
The visiting delegation was accompanied by the Commissioner/Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Chairman, Pollution Control Committee, Deputy Commissioner, Samba, and other senior officers of the concerned departments.
Tarun Singla, officiating president, Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA), while welcoming the Committee, strongly and comprehensively highlighted the challenges being faced by existing industries in Jammu & Kashmir. Singla emphasized the urgent need for extension of turnover incentives and working capital interest subvention for existing industrial units; introduction of road freight subsidy to offset geographical disadvantages; early announcement of the Logistics & Warehousing Policy, presently pending with the Cabinet; State and Central fiscal incentives for new industrial units and existing units undergoing substantial expansion; availability of industrial land for the MSME sector, which is currently facing acute shortages; sanction of funds for up-gradation of existing industrial estates; establishment of a time-bound mechanism for the release of SGST refunds and Turnover-based incentives.
Singla underscored that policy delays and lack of clarity are adversely impacting industrial sustainability, employment generation, and future investments in the region.
The Committee patiently heard all the issues raised by the BBIA leadership and assured the Association that the matters would be taken up on priority with the concerned departments for appropriate resolution.
Other office bearers including Ajay Langer- vice president, BBIA; Viraaj Malhotra general secretary; Rajesh Jain, secretary; Rishi Kant Gupta, Treasurer, besides officials from District Industries Centre (DIC), Jammu, J&K SIDCO, and the J&K Pollution Control Committee were also present.
