JAMMU, Jan 11: A delegation of Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) under the chairmanship of Lalit Mahajan called on Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Commissioner/ Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department in his office chamber here today and projected the issues of the industrialists in the State.
During discussions, Mahajan drew the attention of Dwivedi towards the non- availability of State Fiscal incentives to the new units and the units under substantial expansion resulting into sharp decline in the Industrial growth since last two and half years after the adoption of GST.
He claimed that as per data available with the Association in Jammu province only 209 new units were set up during 2017-18 while during 2018-19 just 141 while during 2019-20 ( Oct ending), just 92 units started production. The employment generation figure also considerably reduced.
Mahajan said the position is more serious as due to non- availability of the job avenues in J&K , the educated youths have no option but to shift to other parts of the country to earn their bread and butter and it will also put adverse impact on the Skill Development Programme implemented by the Central Govt.
The BBIA president said it is the need of the hour that Govt of India should provide financial assistance in the shape of Fiscal Incentives for the survival of the existing industrial sector and also to attract new investment in J&K on long term basis keeping in the mind that J&K is passing through stiff hostile conditions since last 30 years.
He said there is requirement of State Package of Fiscal Incentives for Industrial Sector of J&K, reimbursement of 100% CGST/SGST to existing units, units under substantial expansion and new units; 2% on the intra-state sale value of goods to units and 100% reimbursement of Freight by road on the import of raw materials by existing units, units under substantial expansion and new units of J&K to compensate the impact due to abolish of Toll Tax enabling the existing Industrial sector to compete with stiff completion from outside the State.
Dwivedi gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by BBIA and assured to resolve the issues on priority basis.
Other office bearers including Tarun Singla, Ajay Langer, Viraaj Malhotra and Rajesh Jain also accompanied Mahajan.
