JAMMU, Jan 28: The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and compassion by Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) J&K UT under the leadership of Convenor Ritika Trehan at Channi Himmat, Jammu. The event focused on underprivileged children, reflecting the true spirit of the Republic by empowering vulnerable sections of society. The programme included flag hoisting, cultural performances, and distribution of sweets and educational materials to the children.
Ritika Trehan highlighted the significance of Republic Day as a reminder of the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the adoption of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees justice, equality and liberty. She emphasized that the essence of the Republic lies in empowering all citizens, particularly underprivileged children and girls, to contribute to national progress. Trehan underlined the importance of educating and empowering girls in Jammu and Kashmir, noting that literacy rates and gender equality have improved but more needs to be done to provide every girl access to quality education and opportunities.
She also shed light on the challenges faced by underprivileged children, especially in rural and border areas and urged the Government and civil society to bridge gaps in education and basic amenities. The event concluded with patriotic songs and cultural dances by the children. Trehan and her team distributed educational kits and essentials, motivating the young participants to pursue their dreams.
